Our Committees

The Board of Directors has five (5) subcommittees: Development, Facilities, Finance, Governance, and Property & Program Evolution. Committees meet at least quarterly and, other than the Governance Committee, membership is open to the community.

If you are interested in getting involved in a committee, submit an application. Questions? Contact the board at turtleislandboard@gmail.com.

Development Committee

The Development Committee leads fundraising efforts, grant identification, and community outreach to support the nonprofit mission of the school. They also plan fun community events and coordinate community support for teacher appreciation week.

Facilities Committee

The Facilities Committee looks after the Center’s buildings and grounds, making sure everything is safe, functional, and up to date. They help plan improvements and recommend changes to the Board based on their assessments of the Center’s physical space.

Finance Committee

The Finance Committee oversees the school's fiscal health, including budget creation, teacher benefits package, tuition rate reviews, responsible spending, and long-term financial sustainability. They help secure the resources needed to support the Center’s work and provide financial advice to the Board.

Governance Committee

The Governance Committee helps the Center’s leadership run smoothly by overseeing the Board’s effectiveness, evaluating staff, and reviewing programs. They also play a key role in identifying new Board members and ensuring the leadership team stays aligned with the Center’s mission.

Property & Program Committee

The Property & Program Evolution Committee focuses on strengthening and expanding Turtle Island’s programming. The committee explores new models, identifies community needs, and supports mission-aligned growth to ensure Turtle Island continues to evolve in meaningful ways.
